Farm Manager

About the Role

The Farm Manager is responsible for the entire operations of the farm, from strategic planning and staff supervision to day-to-day operations and financial oversight. You should be able to maintain professional networks and keep abreast of developments in agricultural science.

 

  • Oversee planting, cultivation, harvesting, and overall farm production to maximize profitability and meet targets.

  • Ensure the health and welfare of crops, monitor crop performance, and apply sustainable farming practices like crop rotation and soil preservation.

  • Manage and maintain farm buildings, machinery, and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and comply with safety standards.

  • Create and manage farm budgets, track financial records, and monitor cash flow and costs.

  • Buy necessary supplies such as seeds, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, and develop strong relationships with suppliers.

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and manage farm workers and seasonal labor, providing leadership and ensuring safety standards are met.

  • Develop long-term farm management plans and set production targets to achieve business goals.

  • Create plans to deal with uncontrollable factors like weather, pests, and diseases, ensuring farm resilience.

  • Introduce new agricultural technologies and innovative practices to improve efficiency and sustainability.


Requirements

  • Degree or Higher National Diploma in Agriculture, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in farm management or agricultural production.

  • Management experience would be a plus.

  • Understanding of Agricultural Technology, Machinery and Equipment.

  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • A passion for agriculture.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • The ability to make decisions in stressful environments.

  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and team management skills.
